Burge’s 2010 conviction for perjury came nearly 20 years after his reign of racist terror finally ended. From 1972 to 1991, he led a torture ring of white Chicago detectives who routinely used electric shock, suffocation with plastic bags and typewriter covers, mock executions and brutal attacks on the genitals to obtain confessions from their victims.

Despite his felony conviction, Burge continued to collect his pension (now at $54,000 per year) while serving his time. Another Cop Rewarded ,For Violating The Rights And Torturing And Killing Black Americans.

Several key events preceded the report. A federal court found that members of a Los Angeles sheriffs department formed a Neo Nazi gang and habitually terrorized the black community. Later, the Chicago police department fired Jon Burge, a detective with reputed ties to the Ku Klux Klan, after discovering he tortured over 100 black male suspects. Thereafter, the Mayor of Cleveland discovered that many of the city police locker rooms were infested with “White Power” graffiti. Years later, a Texas sheriff department discovered that two of its deputies were recruiters for the Klan.It is the second time in five years that Klansmen have been found in the Fruitland Park Police Department. In 2009, Officer James Elkins resigned after photographs showed him in a white robe and pointy hood, and he later admitted he was a leader of the local KKK.Chief Deputy State Attorney Ric Ridgway, whom Isaac contacted for advice, told the Orlando Sentinel that the report contained "a lot of fairly substantial evidence that tends to support" Borst's and Hunnewell's Klan membership.

In near prophetic fashion, after the FBI’s warning, white supremacy extremism in the U.S. increased, exponentially. From 2008 to 2014, the number of white supremacist groups, reportedly, grew from 149 to nearly a thousand, with no apparent abatement in their infiltration of law enforcement.

This year, alone, at least seven San Francisco law enforcement officers were suspended after an investigation revealed they exchanged numerous “White Power” communications laden with remarks about “lynching African-Americans and burning crosses.” Three reputed Klan members that served as correction officers were arrested for conspiring to murder a black inmate. At least four Fort Lauderdale police officers were fired after an investigation found that the officers fantasized about killing black suspects.

The United States doesn’t publicly track white supremacists, so the full range of their objectives remains murky. Although black and Jewish-Americans are believed to be the foremost targets of white supremacists, recent attacks in Nevada, Wisconsin, Arizona, Kansas and North Carolina, demonstrate that other non-whites, and religious and social minorities, are also vulnerable. Perhaps more alarmingly, in the last several years alone, white supremacists have reportedly murdered law enforcement officers in Arkansas, Nevada and Wisconsin.

In fact, the FBI reports that of the 511 law enforcement officers killed during felony incidents from 2004 to 2013, white citizens killed the majority of them. Of the citizens stopped by law enforcement officers in New York City and Chicago, white citizens were more likely to be found with guns and drugs. Given the white supremacist penchant for violence, guns and drug trafficking, the findings may be an indication that their network is just as destructive and far-reaching as that of foreign terrorist groups.

The unfortunate consequence of today’s threat is that a law enforcement officer may be good or bad, a villain or hero; one exceptionally prone to exhibit malicious forms of racial hatred, or distinctively suited to protect the racially oppressed. But the paradox doesn’t end there.

The white supremacist threat brings to light a dark feature of the American experience that some believed extinct. It rouses ingrained notions of distrusts between police and communities of color while bringing to bear the vital interest citizens of good will share in the complete abolishment of race as a judgmental factor.

As the nation struggles to resolve the perplexities of police brutality, the white supremacist threat should inform all Americans that today’s civil discord is not borne out of a robust animosity towards law enforcement, most of whom are professional. Rather, it’s more representative of a centuries-old ideological clash, which has ignited in citizens of good will a desire to affirm notions of racial equality so that the moral ethos of American culture is a reality for all.

Leiha Ann-Sue Artman, 25, pleaded guilty to making a false report of a felony, a crime punishable by up to four years. MLive reports that even though Artman has a considerable rap sheet, the judge did not send her to prison, so she will do her year in the county jail.

Artman told investigators that she had been kidnapped March 27, when four black men snatched her from her driveway and threw her in the trunk of their car. She claimed that the foursome drove her to an unknown location, where they repeatedly raped and beat her.

Ms Jones told police she'd been attacked by a Hispanic man while jogging in Central Park, and again near her apartment, but prosecutors later said she 'made it up for attention'

In 1989, five juveniles were convicted in the beating and rape of a female jogger in Central Park. Antron McCray, Raymond Santana Jr., Kevin Richardson, Yusef Salaam and Kharey Wise were between 14 and 16 when they were arrested for the rape, sodomy, and assault of the 28-year-old woman.The teens claimed that incriminating statements they had given to police had been coerced by authorities. But the statements were ruled admissible, and the men were convicted in two separate trials in 1990. The teens, four black and one Hispanic, were given sentences that ranged from five to 15 years behind bars.

The case erupted within the press, with the men known as “The Central Park Five.”

But in 2002, the D.A. said a man named Matais Reyes, confessed to raping the woman and DNA evidence confirmed his involvement. Reyes, a convicted serial rapist and murderer, was serving a life sentence at the time of his confession. He was not prosecuted for raping the jogger due to the statute of limitations passing on the case.That same year, the men’s convictions were vacated and all charges were withdrawn.The Central Park Five went on to sue the city of New York for $41 million in 2014.

Amanda Knox has returned to the United States wearing the halo of victimhood for a crime she presumably did not commit. But it should not be forgotten that in her long journey toward exculpation, she blamed an innocent black man for the murder for which she was accused.

Egregious Cases of White People Falsely Accusing Black People of Committing Crimes

Susan Smith’s case garnered the attention of the world when she claimed in October 1994 that she had been carjacked in South Carolina by a Black man who drove away with her two young sons ages 3 years old and 14 months still in the car. For nine days, she made dramatic pleas on national television for their rescue. But following an intensive investigation and a nationwide search, she confessed to letting her 1990 Mazda Protegé roll into nearby John D. Long Lake, drowning them inside.

Photos from 2005 are going viral all over again in 2017, all because of the “looting” versus “finding” wording that was used in the descriptions of the following photos from the Associated Press and Getty Images.

As seen in the below Associated Press photo by Dave Martin, an African-American young man can be seen with a case of diet soda under his arm as he makes his way through the deep waters that flooded New Orleans in the midst and wake of Hurricane Katrina. The exact description of that photo, as listed by the Associated Press, is reprinted below.

“A young man walks through chest deep flood water after looting a grocery store in New Orleans on Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2005. Flood waters continue to rise in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina did extensive damage when it made landfall on Monday.”

Graythen’s photo, dated August 29, 2005, enjoys a description — reprinted exactly below — which shows a white couple wading through the same floodwaters that devastated New Orleans in the wake of the storm of the century. However, Graythen’s description reads that the couple found bread and soda from a nearby grocery store.

“NEW ORLEANS – AUGUST 29: Two residents wade through chest-deep water after finding bread and soda from a local grocery store after Hurricane Katrina came through the area on August 29, 2005, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Katrina was downgraded to a category 4 storm as it approached New Orleans.”

The number of black people cleared of their crimes in 2014 matches up with long-term trends. The U.S. has absolved 1,536 people of their crimes, and black people have the highest rate of exoneration. Nearly 715 of them have been cleared, to date. This can be attributed to the fact that there are more African Americans in the U.S. prison system than any other race group. Roughly one-third of all African-American males will serve time in prison, in part due to disparate interactions with police. For instance, the Department of Justice concluded that black men are searched three times more than white men when officers make a traffic stop. White men are six times less likely to be incarcerated than black men. And the U.S. Sentencing Commission determined that, on average, black men serve sentences that are 20 percent longer than the ones imposed on their white counterparts who committed similar crimes.

The National Registry of Exoneration's concluded that 125 people, including six inmates who were sentenced to death, were exonerated in 2014. With the highest number of exoneration's of any year to date, 2014 also saw a shift in the types of crime that people were exonerated for.

Previously, the highest number of exoneration's in one year was 91, which occurred in 2012. In 2013, one-third of them involved non-homicide non-sex crimes. However, in 2014, nearly 50 percent of exoneration's involved improper convictions for non-homicide non-sex crimes, and drug crimes accounted for 31 percent. The high exoneration rate was due in large part to the increase in Conviction Integrity Units, which research false convictions, however, an unusually high number of people were exonerated in one Texas county.

But beyond the outstanding number of exoneration's last year, one demographic group was disproportionately impacted: African-Americans. Registry data showed that 66 black people were exonerated for a wide range of crimes. Exactly half of them were cleared of murder charges, 14 were cleared of drug sale or possession charges, and 11 were absolved of sexual assault charges. Seven were serving life sentences and three were serving life sentences with no chance of parole. Moreover, 100 percent of exonerated persons on death row were black.

5 Most Unjust Convictions Of Black Men That Were Overturned

1. Geronimo Pratt

The late Black Panther Party member, Geronimo Pratt, was sentenced in 1970 for allegedly murdering a 27-year-old elementary school teacher. Pratt spent 27 years behind bars and maintained his innocence throughout the whole time. His sentence was eventually vacated on June 10, 1997, when they found out that the prosecution had concealed evidence that might have exonerated Pratt.

2. Barney Brown

Barney Brown was a 15-year old who was convicted of rape and robbery and sentenced to life in prison. Thirty-eight years later he was exonerated. Brown now travels to schools to speak to students about the importance of an education and to never give up hope.

3. Anthony Graves

Anthony Graves was convicted of murder in 1994 and spent 18 years on death row. In 2010 he was exonerated of the charges when the court found that the prosecution withheld information from the defense and elicited false testimony. Graves was later denied compensation because the words “actual innocence” weren’t used in the ruling.

4. Raymond Towler

Raymond Towler was convicted to a life sentence for an alleged rape, kidnapping and felonious assault of two teens on September 18, 1981. Twenty-seven years later his sentence was vacated when DNA tests proved him not innocent of the alleged crimes.

5. Jimmy Bain

James “Jimmy” Bain was 19 years-old when he was convicted on charges of kidnapping, burglary and strong-arm rape. He maintained his innocence in prison, and hand wrote four motions in 2001 to have DNA testing, but they were all denied. After he filed a filed a fifth motion, he was directed to have a hearing on the case. He was then given permission to get the DNA testing, which proved he was not guilty of the crime– 35 years after his conviction.

It is that disparity in wording between the two images that has caused a Snopes post about the photos to go viral. Titled “Epic Loot,” the newly-updated article shows screenshots of two of the above photos, along with their descriptions — and asks why the black people were described as looters whilst the white people were described as folks who found supplies after Hurricane Katrina.

A Reminder of What The Term “Race Riot” Has Usually Meant Throughout American History.

Modern American Notions of "Race Riot" Pull From Images of The 1960s: Watts & Detroit. But The Term Has a Much Longer History For Most of America's History "Race Riot" Meant White Supremacy Asserting Itself Through Ritualized Violence.

1863 NY Draft Riots-white mobs angry at Union draft riot for 3 days ,looting and burning property,killing over 100 blacks . #whiteriots

Initially intended to express anger at the draft, the protests turned into a race riot, with white rioters, predominantly Irish immigrants, attacking blacks throughout the city. The official death toll was listed at either 119 or 120 individuals. Conditions in the city were such that Major General John E. Wool, commander of the Department of the East, said on July 16 that "Martial law ought to be proclaimed, but I have not a sufficient force to enforce it."

The military did not reach the city until after the first day of rioting, by which time the mobs, primarily ethnic Irish, had already ransacked or destroyed numerous public buildings, two Protestant churches, the homes of various abolitionists or sympathizers, many black homes, and the Colored Orphan Asylum at 44th Street and Fifth Avenue, which was burned to the ground.

1842-Philadelphia white mobs attack a black parade and riot for 3 days, beating many, looting black homes & burning a church.

On the morning of August 1, 1842, a parade was held by over 1,000 members of the black Young Men's Vigilant Association on Philadelphia's Lombard Street between Fifth and Eighth Streets in commemoration of the eighth anniversary of the end of slavery in the British West Indies. As the paraders neared Mother Bethel Church, they were attacked by an Irish Catholic mob. The rioters moved west, setting fires and attacking firefighters and police as they went, heading for the home of African-American leader Robert Purvis. Purvis and his home were reportedly saved from the Irish mob solely by a Catholic priest's intervention.

Requests to the mayor and police for protection initially led to the arrest of several of the victims and none of the rioters. Over three days of attacks, the Second African American Presbyterian Church (on St. Mary's Street near 6th Street), the abolitionist Smith's Hall, and numerous homes and public buildings were looted, burned and mostly destroyed. The mayor had credible evidence of a plan to burn several local churches, which he ignored. Eventually, as the rioting began to subside, the local militia was brought in to restore order.

Aftermath

Afterward, the mayor refused to arrest most of those known to have led the riot. Of those arrested by the militia, most were found not guilty or otherwise released. The three or four who were convicted received only light sentences

When the community was burned down in the Tulsa Race Riot, over 800 people were admitted to surrounding hospitals, an estimated 10,000 were left homeless, 35 city blocks housing 1,256 residences were destroyed, and 600 successful businesses were lost, including 21 restaurants, 30 grocery stores, two movie theaters and a hospital. The Ku Klux Klan-led riot lasted for over 16 hours

1950s - History -1950-1959

‘Five Little Nigger Boys’ (1950) This 1950 release from Britain is a target shooting game. Players are equipped with a rubber-band gun to shoot down five black-painted figurines, some eating watermelon. The first player to shoot down a predetermined amount of pieces wins the game.

The physical violence associated with the "African Dip" game occurred outside the cage -- in some instances, angry White customers would wait hours for the Black "target" to leave the protected area so they could assault him. This was not necessary with "Hit the Coon," also popular at resorts, fairs, and festivals. A Black man would stick his head through a hole in a banner and the White customers would throw baseballs at him. Although the Black victim tried to avoid the baseballs, many White customers inflicted the physical damage they desired. Some carnival operators provided human targets with protective wooden helmets covered with curly hair; most did not. The banner was painted with a stereotypical scene, for example, a cotton plantation. A direct blow to the head resulted in the thrower receiving a small prize -- and the psychological benefit of believing that he or she was superior to the victim.

Lyndon Baines Johnson 1963... "These Negroes, they're getting pretty uppity these days and that's a problem for us since they've got something now they never had before, the political pull to back up their uppityness. Now we've got to do something about this, we've got to give them a little something, just enough to quiet them down, not enough to make a difference... I'll have them niggers voting Democratic for the next two hundred years".

Lynching were large spectator events that drew crowds sometimes numbering in the thousands, where souvenirs of body parts were often sold, alongside postcards and other mementos.The report describes several of these, among them the gruesome 1904 lynching in Doddville , Mississippi of

Luther Holbert and his wife, who were accused of killing a wealthy white planter. Both victims were tied to a tree and forced to hold out their hands while members of the mob methodically chopped off their fingers and distributed them as souvenirs. Next, their ears were cut off .Mr. Holbert was then beaten so severely that his skull was fractured and one of his eyes was left hanging from its socket.Members of the mob used a large corkscrew to bore holes into the victims "bodies and pull large chunks of quivering flesh, after which both victims were thrown into a raging fire and burned.The white men, women, and children present watched the horrific event while enjoying deviled eggs, lemonade, and whiskey in a picnic-like atmosphere.

Hayes Turner, who was seized from custody after his arrest on the morning of 18 May 1918 and lynched. Distraught, his eight-month pregnant wife Mary denied that her husband had been involved in Smith's killing, publicly opposed her husband's murder, and threatened to have members of the mob arrested. The mob then turned against her, determined to "teach her a lesson".

Although she fled when she learned of the mob's intent, she was nevertheless captured at noon on 19 May. The mob of several hundred brought her to Folsom Bridge over the Little River, which separates Brooks and Lowndes counties. The mob then tied her ankles, hung her upside down from a tree, doused her in gasoline and motor oil and set her on fire.

While Turner was still alive, a member of the mob split her abdomen open with a knife. Her unborn child fell on the ground, where it gave a cry before it was stomped on and crushed. Finally, Turner's body was riddled with hundreds of bullets. Mary Turner and her child were cut down and buried near the tree, with a whiskey bottle marking the grave.

According to Philip Dray, “There, before a crowd that included women and children, Mary was stripped, hung upside down by the ankles, soaked with gasoline, and roasted to death. In the midst of this torment, a white man opened her swollen belly with a hunting knife and her infant fell to the ground, gave a cry, and was stomped to death.

1898 POSTMASTER LYNCHING

In the early hours of February 22, 1898 a lynch mob set fire to the Lake City, South Carolina, post office and aimed their guns at the front door. Postmaster Frazier B. Baker and his family faced running through gunfire on their only escape route from the post office that doubled as their home. The mob shot Baker and his two-year-old daughter Julia dead. Shots injured his wife Lavinia, daughters Rosa and Cora, and son Lincoln, but daughters Sarah and Millie were not hit.

*HIT THE NIGGER BABY* The name of a children's game which was the equivalent of hitting the pinata, commonly played at birthday parties. There were some rather barbaric techniques used to make the game last longer: Black female babies were believed to better for the "game" because they were deemed naturally weak and whiny. Many black slave mothers were forced to breastfeed the babies that were to be used for the game because it was more likely to make them vomit and cry from the blows of the white children .

Two weeks after King's beating, Korean-American grocer Soon Ja Du fatally shot 15-year-old Latasha Harlins after a dispute over a bottle of orange juice. Latasha died with $2 in her hand.

Du faced a possible 16-year sentence in state prison. A judge sentenced her to probation, saying she was in fear from earlier robberies. The sentence and a surveillance video of Latasha being shot in the back inflamed racial tensions and became symbols of what many believed was a double standard of justice.

As we know now, Mr Martin was not on drugs, and we also know he was afraid and tried to flee. Mr Zimmerman pursued him and then murdered him, if you were a 150 pound kid faced with a 220 pound man pursuing you at night for no reason would you not also be afraid ? How could Mr Martin know what, Mr Zimmerman was planning to do. While visiting family in Money, Mississippi, 14-year-old Emmett Till, an African American from Chicago, is brutally murdered for flirting with a white woman four days earlier. His assailants–the white woman’s husband and her brother–made Emmett carry a 75-pound cotton-gin fan to the bank of the Tallahatchie River and ordered him to take off his clothes. The two men then beat him nearly to death, gouged out his eye, shot him in the head, and then threw his body, tied to the cotton-gin fan with barbed wire, into the river.

Twenty-year-old Mary Turner (m.n. Hattie Graham), 8 months pregnant at the time and whose husband had been killed in this "lynching rampage" on Sunday, May 19th, publicly objected to her husband's murder. She also had the audacity to threaten to swear out warrants for those responsible. Those "unwise remarks," as the area papers put it, enraged locals. Consequently, Mary Turner fled for her life only to be caught and taken to a place called Folsom's Bridge on the Brooks and Lowndes Counties' shared border. To punish her, at Folsom's Bridge the mob tied Mary Turner by her ankles, hung her upside down from a tree, poured gasoline on her and burned off her clothes. One member of the mob then cut her stomach open and her unborn child dropped to the ground where it was reportedly stomped on and crushed by a member of the mob. Her body was then riddled with gunfire from the mob. Later that night she and her baby were buried ten feet away from where they were murdered. The makeshift grave was marked with only a "whiskey bottle" with a "cigar" stuffed in its neck.

On December 17, 2009, James Bain was freed from prison after postconviction DNA testing proved his innocence of a 1974 rape and kidnapping. At the time of his release, Bain’s 35 years spent in prison was the longest time served by any of the DNA exonerees nationwide.

In 1974, at the age of 19, Bain was convicted of rape and kidnapping. He was released in 2009 at the age of 54.

Charges against him were dismissed after the sole witness recanted his testimony almost four decades later, saying he never saw the slaying and was pressured by police to make the false accusation.

In a population of 316,128,839, we can say that there are (approximately at the end of 2013) there are 244,051,464 white people and 41,729,007 black people.

The FBI estimates that there were 14,196 homicides in the United States in 2013. The FBI received expanded statistics sets on 5723 of those homicides. Of the 5723 with expanded data, there were 2509 "white-on-white" homicides and 2245 black-on-black homicides.

Gary Webb was a reporter for the San Jose Mercury News when he wrote a groundbreaking series called “Dark Alliance.” The series, published in 1996, was based on a yearlong investigation. It essentially exposed connections between the CIA and millions of dollars in cocaine sales that benefitted Nicaraguan Contras in their 1980s fight against the ruling leftist Sandinista government. Congress had quashed funding for the anti-Communist fighters loved by Ronald Reagan and the right wing. Covert support for the group led to the 1986 Iran Contra scandal.

But on the other side of the equation, CIA operatives tied to the Contras opened the floodgates for cheap cocaine through drug-selling in the Black community in Los Angeles, which helped fuel a shift from high priced powder cocaine to a cheap rock-like, cooked version that became widely known as crack, the San Jose Mercury News reported. The series showed connections between a CIA operative, the drug selling Fuerza Democratica Nicaraguense, the largest of several Contra groups, and drug dealer Ricky Ross. The drug money was used by the FDN to buy weapons and war material.

The series also focused on the devastating impact crack cocaine had on the Black community in Los Angeles and the shocking numbers of Blacks prosecuted for some connection to the drug.

It was received with great interest, but then attacked by major media outlets and the Central Intelligence Agency. The Mercury News retracted the series. Reporter Webb stuck by his work but couldn’t get a job. He was reported dead from suicide in 2004.

“As many of Webb’s defenders have noted, if journalists had put half the passion into following up the implications of that report that they put to discrediting Webb, we’d know a lot more about the darkest side of America’s national security state,” observed Greg Grandin, who wrote a piece for The Nation published online as “The New York Times’ Wants Gary Webb to Stay Dead” in October. The Los Angeles Times, the New York Times and the Washington Post were among those who aimed high level-scrutiny at the Dark Alliance series. As Mr. Grandin notes, “the Los Angeles Times alone assigned seventeen reporters to leverage the inherent mysteries of the national security state to cast doubt on Webb.”

Many Americans still count on the mainstream media to define reality for them, but too often the MSM spins false narratives that protect the powerful and diminish democracy, as happened in the long-running denial of cocaine trafficking by President Reagan’s beloved Nicaraguan Contra rebels.

Perhaps the starkest description of the situation is this: More than one out of every six black men who today should be between 25 and 54 years old have disappeared from daily life.“The numbers are staggering,” said Becky Pettit, a professor of sociology at the University of Texas.

Drug sentences for black men were 13.1 percent longer than drug sentences for white men between 2007 and 2009, according to a 2012 report from the US Sentencing Commission.That disparity has been true for most recent history. Black men received 9.1 percent longer drug sentences between 2005 and 2007 and 9.2 percent longer drug sentences between 1998 and 2003. There was no statistically significant difference in drug sentences for black and white men in 2003 and 2004.

Mandatory minimum sentences were established in the 1980s when politicians touted the so-called crack epidemic to show off tough-on-crime stances. But these sentences are set in a way that could target black drug offenders more than white drug offenders. Take, for instance, the mandatory minimum sentence threshold for crack versus cocaine. Someone would need to possess nearly 18 times more cocaine than crack to get a five-year mandatory minimum sentence.

The Greenwood neighborhood in Tulsa, Oklahoma, housed one of the most successful Black economies in American history. The area is, now, commonly referred to as “The Black Wall Street.” Most of the businesses and homes were burned down in the Tulsa Race Riot of 1921.

1.The dollar circulated 36 to 100 times in this tight-knit community, according to sfbayview.com. A single dollar might have stayed in Tulsa for almost a year before leaving the Black community. Comparatively in modern times, a dollar can circulate in Asian communities for a month, Jewish communities for 20 days and white communities for 17, but it leaves the modern-day Black community in six hours.

2.In a time when the entire state of Oklahoma had only two airports, six Black families owned their own planes. The average income for a Black family was well over what minimum wage is today. Dr. Simon Berry, who owned the bus system in Tulsa, recalls that in 1910 his average income was around $500 a day, according to reports from sfbayview.com.

3.When the community was burned down in the Tulsa Race Riot, over 800 people were admitted to surrounding hospitals, an estimated 10,000 were left homeless, 35 city blocks housing 1,256 residences were destroyed, and 600 successful businesses were lost, including 21 restaurants, 30 grocery stores, two movie theaters and a hospital. The Ku Klux Klan-led riot lasted for over 16 hours.

4.In the initial years after the riot, surviving residents began to rebuild the once-vibrant city. It thrived again until the desegregation of the 1950s and ’60s began to entice the Black people of the time to live elsewhere, causing Black Wall Street to never again be what it once was.

5.“Many of the survivors mentioned bodies were stacked like cord wood,” says Richard Warner of the Tulsa Historical Society.The Tulsa Race Riot Commission conducted archeological digs to test the soil for unmarked graves around the area. The test revealed that hundreds of bodies had been buried outside of the cemetery.

6.In 1906, O.W. Gurley, a wealthy African-American from Arkansas, moved to Tulsa and purchased over 40 acres of land that he made sure was only sold to other African-Americans. Gurley also used the area to give refuge to African-Americans running from the harsh oppression of Mississippi.

We have avoided in recent years talking openly and honestly about race out of fear that it will alienate and polarize. In my own view, it’s our refusal to deal openly and honestly with race that leads us to keep repeating these cycles of exclusion and division, and rebirthing a caste-like system that we claim we’ve left behind

I know this is dark stuff that we don’t want to think about, but we should face it. We should be reminded of it and the ways our dark chapters inform our biases, our politics, and the ways we feel about one another. We should feel sadness for the nameless children whose deaths were not accidental. But sadness is not action. Empathy and understanding are characteristics that prompt actions. Actions that give birth to progress.

Without all of us acknowledging the vile germs of our history and their contribution to the dysfunction that is present-day American injustice, we cannot expect a cure. A jury found Robert Blake Innocent in the death of his wife Bonny Lee Bakley. The public and the media did not agree with this verdict many were outraged, but the verdict was accepted and everyone move on.OJ Simpson was acquitted and the white media and the public did not accept the jury verdict but the media and white America never let OJ Simpson go back to a regular life, they hounded him for years until they were finally able to put him away, on charges that anyone else's would have walked away from, this is what I call the white mob mentality.

Hayes Turner, who was seized from custody after his arrest on the morning of 18 May 1918 and lynched. Distraught, his eight-month pregnant wife Mary denied that her husband had been involved in Smith's killing, publicly opposed her husband's murder, and threatened to have members of the mob arrested. The mob then turned against her, determined to "teach her a lesson".

While Turner was still alive, a member of the mob split her abdomen open with a knife. Her unborn child fell on the ground, where it gave a cry before it was stomped on and crushed. Finally, Turner's body was riddled with hundreds of bullets. Mary Turner and her child were cut down and buried near the tree, with a whiskey bottle marking the grave.

According to Philip Dray, “There, before a crowd that included women and children, Mary was stripped, hung upside down by the ankles, soaked with gasoline, and roasted to death. In the midst of this torment, a white man opened her swollen belly with a hunting knife and her infant fell to the ground, gave a cry, and was stomped to death.

A story in Harper’s Weekly, Dec. 18, 1858, featured an illustration of a man being killed by a shower bath at Auburn Correctional Facility in New York State, entitled “The Negro convict, More, showered to death.” “. . . all the water that was in the tank — amounting to from three to five barrels, the quantity is uncertain — was showered upon him in spite of his piteous cries; a few minutes after his release from the bath he fell prostrate, was carried to his cell, and died in five minutes.”

A torturous “punishment” session turned fatal for a mentally-ill prisoner when prison guards forced him to stand in a tiny shower stall while being blasted by scalding hot water until his skin began to shrivel away from his body and he died. Fellow inmates say he begged for his life before collapsing in the shower.

“I heard them lock the shower door, and they were mocking him,” Joiner said, as the guards turned on their retrofitted shower full blast and steam began to fill the ward.

“He was crying, please stop, please stop,” Joiner said. And they just said, “Enjoy your shower, and left.”

And then they got into an altercation with a gas station security guard. Reports also say that the swimmers urinated on the walls of the gas station. They eventually paid for the damage with cash. Then concocted a robbery story and headed back to the Olympic Village, with their wallets and items in hand that they said had been stolen. This is white privilege's version of patriotism.

Immediately after the Civil War ended, Southern states enacted "black codes" that allowed African Americans certain rights, such as legalized marriage, ownership of property, and limited access to the courts, but denied them the rights to testify against whites, to serve on juries or in state militias, vote, or start a job without the approval of the previous employer. These codes were all repealed in 1866 when Reconstruction began.

None of these people was the suspect. In many cases like these, officers did not find the suspect or any contraband in the home.

This coupled with the aforementioned paragraph indicate that if a white male is the rapist, the victim is statistically more likely to be white and killed during the crime.

Indeed, according to the U.S government, "imprisoned violent sex offenders were more likely to have been male and white than other violent offenders." Furthermore, in the category of sexual assault, whites made up nearly 75% of all offenders imprisoned for sexual assault vs. 23% for blacks and 3% for other races. The U.S government also found that 52% vs 44% of sexual offenders were white and black, respectively.

On Wednesday, the Southern Poverty Law Center, an Alabama-based organization that monitors hate crimes across the country, released its annual report on extremism in America. The report says the number of groups across the country increased in 2016 to 917, up from 892 in 2015. In 2011, SPLC recorded 1,018 active organizations, the highest tally it found in more than 30 years of tracking hate groups. That number had fallen to 784 in 2014.

Jennie Steers On July 25, 1903, Before they lynched her, the mob tried to force her to confess but she refused and was hanged.

Laura Nelson was lynched on May 23, 1911, In Okemah, Okluskee, Oklahoma. Her fifteen-year-old son was also lynched at the same time.The mob raped and dragged Nelson six miles to the Canadian River and hanged her from a bridge.

Ann Barksdale or Ann Bostwick The lynchers drove at high speed and she was strangled to death. For good measure, the mob shot her eyes out and shot enough bullets Into her body that she was “cut in two.”

Marie Scott March 31, 1914, a white mob of at least a dozen males, yanked seventeen-year-old Marie Scott from jail, threw a rope over her head as she screamed and hanged her from a telephone pole in Wagoner County, Oklahoma. What happened? Two drunken white men barged Into her house as she was dressing. They locked themselves in her room and criminally “assaulted” her. Her brother apparently heard her screams for help, kicked down the door, killed one assailant and fled.

Mary Turner 1918 Eight Months Pregnant Mobs lynched Mary Turner on May 17, 1918, in Lowndes County. Georgia because she vowed to have those responsible for killing her husband arrested. Her husband was arrested in connection with the shooting and killing Hampton Smith, a white farmer for whom the couple had worked, and wounding his wife. Sidney Johnson. a Black, apparently killed Smith because he was tired of the farmer’s abuse. Unable to find Johnson. the killers lynched eight other Blacks Including Hayes Turner and his wife Mary. The mob hanged Mary by her feet poured gasoline and oil on her and set fire to her body. One white man sliced her open and Mrs. Turner’s baby tumbled to the ground with a “little cry” and the mob stomped the baby to death and sprayed bullets into Mary Turner.

Maggie Howze and Alma Howze -Both Pregnant In December of 1918. Whites lynched Andrew Clark, age 15, Major Clark, age 20, Maggie Howze, age 20, and Alma Howze, age 16 from a bridge near Shutaba, a town in Mississippi.

Holbert Burnt at the Stake Luther Holbert, a Black, supposedly killed James Eastland, a wealthy planter, and John Carr, a negro, who lived near Doddsville Mississippi. After a hundred mile chase over four days, the mob of more than 1,000 persons caught Luther and his wife and tied them both to trees. They were forced to hold out their hands while one finger at a time was chopped off and their ears were cut off. Pieces of raw quivering flesh were pulled out of their arms, legs, and body with a bore screw and kept for souvenirs. Holbert was beaten and his skull fractured. An eye was knocked out with a stick and hung from the socket.
